SAFETY STRONG PROGRAM
PROGRAM
Safety Strong is an educational safety training program for students in grades PreK - 6 that teaches active threat safety as well as develops positive behaviors. There are four categories of books which include Administrator Manual, Teacher Guide, Student Activity Book, and Parent Guide. The child-friendly program is delivered directly by the classroom teacher, requiring approximately one hour per day of instruction over a two week period. In addition, there are resources that keep the training current throughout the school year that require less than 10 minutes per week. During this training, students and staff learn the skills and vocabulary to prepare and participate in a school-wide lockdown/active threat drill.

With over 20 years in education, I have seen firsthand the need for positive behavior development and early identification and intervention of concerning behaviors. My educational background includes teaching special education, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis in applied behavior analysis, from Texas A&M University. I have taught in a few different states from Wisconsin to Missouri, Iowa, and Hawaii.
The increasing incidents of active threat violence throughout the country have heightened the need for early intervention of behaviors and also the need for developmentally appropriate safety training at the elementary/grassroots level.
We recognize the necessity of proactive school safety education for all staff and students and the importance of addressing early warning signs and intervention in a collaborative team approach. Due to the increase in active shooter incidents in schools, as a culture we need to increase our situational awareness and reduce the bullying factor by teaching respect, responsibility, and compassion in conjunction with safety. For a variety of reasons children are increasingly exposed to violence in the home, school, and/or community. At safety strong, we consider the needs of all students and deliver a program that is informative, nurturing, and trauma sensitive.
Safety Strong is the program I developed as a result of years of analysis, extensive research, and coordination with emergency personnel, mental health professionals, and school administrators.
